Due to the previous success of the last Chimurenga mix we have decided to do another. Although Moga tries to abstain from bringing politics into music, it is difficult to separate the two in Zimbabwe where many musicians, including those featured in this mix, have either been revolutionary fighters, political prisoners and sometimes both. Indeed Simon Chimbetu, performed as one half of ‘The Marxist Brothers’ due to his political inclinations and Thomas Mapfumo is now in exile. Considering the seriousness of such matters, these records make for unbelievably danceable music- one can see why The Green Arrows’ were nicknamed “wha-wha (beer) music” as their music got people to consume vast amounts of beer and no doubt shake a leg. The concerned mix is taken from late 70’s to early 90’s and features traditional Chimurenga, Jit music and Soukous influenced sounds. Enjoy.
