With 1/4 of us away in Brasil we thought it only right to give you a musical taster from that side of the Atlantic. With MogaDisco’s focus predominantly centred on African music this mix picks the Northeast, a region rich in Afro-Brazilian culture, as its source of inspiration. Today the legacy of forced migration from Africa can be seen in the Dende, Capoeira and Maracatu- it is the Nordeste from where freed slaves left to form a community in Lagos, Nigeria.
This mix features a number of important musicians from the Northeast, including Clementina de Jesus and Dominguinhos, along with a sprinkling of Brasilian classics for good measure. We hope you enjoy.
